Valeo and Speedy partnered to launch Canopy™, the first windshield wiper blade designed to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions.
Valeo Canopy™ is the range of car wiper blades dedicated to drivers who are looking for high-quality wiping performances while limiting their environmental footprint.
With Valeo Canopy™, which is part of the Valeo “I care for the Planet” program - aiming at limiting the impact of aftermarket activities on the environment-, Valeo aims to reduce its environmental impact, both in design and production, while maintaining its trusted, premium wiping quality performance. Canopy’s CO₂ footprint was independently verified by Bureau Veritas, giving the product environmental credibility right from launch.
More than just a product release, the POC aimed to redefine how sustainability is communicated to both workshops and drivers, and enable better market adoption through joint commercial and educational efforts.
Introducing an eco-designed innovation in the automotive aftermarket means engaging both workshops and drivers to change their buying behavior.
Valeo and Speedy worked together to meet this challenge by activating a coordinated campaign focused on visibility, engagement, and motivation:
- Strong physical presence in garages: Valeo displayed Canopy wipers at Speedy workshops to boost visibility and create awareness at the point of sale.
- Communication strategy: Press releases and targeted media outreach supported Canopy’s launch, but the focus remained on delivering clear, fact-based environmental benefits to mechanics and customers.
- Loyalty incentives: Through the Valeo Specialist Club, workshops were rewarded for stocking and promoting Canopy, turning sustainability into a business opportunity.
- Sell-out promotion: Special campaigns and pricing strategies were implemented to accelerate turnover and encourage repeat purchasing behavior. Together, these actions aimed to make eco-designed products an easier and more attractive choice for garages and drivers.
The POC demonstrated strong environmental and commercial results:
• 61% reduction in CO₂ emissions* per wiper, compared to standard Valeo wiper blade produced in Asia and packaged in plastic
• 9 tons of CO₂ avoided** during the pilot phase
• 157.5 tons of CO₂ reduction*** projected during the full deployment phase
The Canopy wiper is now being integrated into Speedy’s product offering as a sustainable choice for environmentally conscious consumers and workshops. More than just a new product launch, it marks a first-of-its-kind initiative to learn how sustainability can be marketed all the way to the end user - a new approach in the automotive aftermarket.
