Motorcycle Diagnostics from Hella Gutmann

Ten years ago, the first motorbike diagnostic unit from Gutmann ? the mo macs 50 ? was launched on the market. Today, approximately every fourth motorcycle garage in Germany uses this unit or the mega macs 42 SE Bike, which took its place in early 2015. The new multi-brand diagnostic unit for motorcycles, scooters, quads and trikes is smaller, faster and even more affordable than its predecessor as an immediate purchase option. Alternatively, garages that already use a mega macs 56/66 for car diagnostics can also easily enable the bike function on these devices as a cost-friendly option.

Those who prefer to work on a tablet or notebook can even do away with a garage device altogether. The “mega macs PC Bike” product from Hella Gutmann includes the same diagnostic software and options as the mega macs 42 SE Bike and the mega macs 56/66 Bike. Communication with vehicles also takes place via Bluetooth VCI irrespective of the hardware used.

The small communications module is docked to the diagnostics interface of the vehicle via a manufacturer-specific adapter. No fewer than 26 adapters can be used to carry out diagnostics for the following brands: Aprilia, BMW, BRP, Derbi, Gilera, Moto Guzzi, MV Agusta, Piaggio, Vespa, Malaguti, Adiva, Bimota, Cagiva, Gas Gas, KVN-Motors, Ducati, Harley Davidson, Honda, Husqvarna, Kawasaki, KTM, Husaberg, Kymco, Peugeot and Suzuki. Several adapters are also available, depending on the manufacturer. Two adapters, for example, cover all models from BMW, MV Agusta and Harley Davidson, whereas three double adapters cover all models from Kawasaki.

New in this motorcycle season: The model range has been expanded to include over 30 new models from BMW, Ducati, Kawasaki and KTM as part of the recent software update, including the KTM Adventure 1290 introduced last year featuring such systems as ABS, active damping, bend lighting, tire pressure monitoring and immobilizer. It goes without saying that the standard functions of reading out/deleting fault codes, querying parameters, activating actuators, basic settings and service provisions are also provided. Included among the many new BMW models is the 2016 C650 Sport scooter, which comes with the standardized 16-pin OBD connector right from the factory. Garages therefore do not need any additional adapters. Especially helpful when it comes to troubleshooting all R-1200 and F-800 models: Presentation mode can be selected on the mega macs to activate systems such as the heated grips, seat heating and damper adjustment without having to start the engine.
